One of the primary reasons I decided to start this book blog was because of the read-along. I noticed as I read other blogs that a host blog would choose a book and invite others to read along with them. Although non-bloggers can participate, typically the host blog will provide discussion posts/questions and a place to link up to other bloggers who are participating. I wanted in, so I created my little book blog. So I’m really excited to announce my participation in not just one, but two read-along opportunities starting within the next week or so.
First, The Estella Society has chosen John Steinbeck’s East of Eden for a read-along running from July 21 – August 18. I haven’t read anything by Steinbeck, so this seems like a great starting point. The read-along will feature a weekly reading schedule and discussion posts, and I am excited for this basic structure to help guide me along.
The second read-along I want to participate in will be hosted over at Words for Worms. Beginning July 18, The Fellowship of the Worms will be reading The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry. I have heard so many great things about this novel – mainly that it is a charming read that just can’t be put down. Also, it is a book about books, and I have a soft spot for those. I’m really excited about this one.
In addition to these two read-alongs, I have decided to tackle a reading challenge also being hosted by The Estella Society. Season 2 of The Estella Project is in full-swing. The basic premise of the challenge is that each participant can choose to read between 1-3 books from a predetermined reading list. The books have to be read and reviews linked up between June 1 and September 1. Each book read and review written is an entry toward the prize, a $20 book from the BookDepository or a $20 gift card to an online retailer. So fun! For the challenge I will be reading:
East of Eden – John Steinbeck
The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry – Gabrielle Zevin
The Night Circus – Erin Morgenstern

I’ve heard that it’s one of those magical books that just absorbs you. I will probably be geeking out over it and trying to force it into the hands of everyone I know!
